Stone pavements, tunnels, narrow streets and stair sets have long replaced the natural conditions of the mountain, which was the only downhill riding spot until the arrival of the new millennium.
It was in the year 2000 with Lisboa Downtown (then called Red Bull Downtown) when the downhill exited the mountains for the first time in order to present itself to the city and the general public.
National and internationally renowned athletes in a scenario ready for the practicing of the sport under the most extreme conditions originated an absolute and unique show for the whole world to watch, with Lisbon as the “World Capital of Urban Downhill”.
