Marin County’s only cross-country mountain bike race takes place 6/6/10 at Camp Tamarancho outside of Fairfax, CA. Proceeds go to local trail organizations BTC Marin (btcmarin.org) and Access4Bikes (access4bikes.com) for trail maintenance, creation and advocacy throughout Marin County and beyond. They not only help maintain our trails in Marin (selflessly) but also work hard with government agencies to open new trails to bikers like the Coastal Trail and Diaz Ridge.
The event will also be a USA Cycling/NORBA Alison Dunlap Junior Mountain Bike Series event (usacycling.org/adjmtb/), the first such event of its kind in Marin, and the only one on the West Coast in 2010. This means it is a qualifier for National Championships in Colorado as well as the USAC national MTB camps this summer. Big discount for 18 and under racers ($25 instead of $40) to encourage all the high school MTB teams and juniors in general to race!
Prizes 3 deep in each category, and lunch at camp after the race, plus a party in Fairfax afterward — good times all day long!
Entrants are encouraged to sign up early as the race will fill up and there will be no same day registration. Online registration deadline is 6/1.
Cross Country
License: USAC/NORBA - Can purchase one-day online when registering.
Course Description: Riders will tough out one to three laps (depending on category) of a 6 mile course through and around the beautiful and pristine Camp, vying for cash and prizes three deep in each category. The course is a mix of singletrack and fire road, with the singletrack known for having many types of trail surfaces within a small area, many switchbacks, and several challenging rocky sections. The notorious and steep fire road ascent — the infamous Dead Heifer – will be part of the course. Total climbing per lap: 1000 ft.
