The Raid on Sherwood Peak is a mixed terrain race consisting of a 50, 60 or 70 mile route over unmaintained county dirt roads, dirt and gravel logging roads of up to a 4″ base. Rustic non-technical singletrack on logging skids is included as well. There will be roughly 8,000 ft of vertical climbing on the 50 mile route. 1/3 of the route is on public property and 2/3 is on private property. The route is either going up or down, there’s very little flat ground, about 10% on the short course and even less on the longer routes.
The overall aim is to bring road racers, CX racers and MTB racers together on one course that will attempt to neutralize any advantage one particular group may have over another with the goal being a fun competitive atmosphere for all.
There will be a police escorted neutral roll out/promenade through downtown Ft. Bragg and the adjoining neighborhood to the base of the first climb at which point it’s game on. The event is fully permitted and insured. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Mendocino Coast Cyclists to develop and improve singletrack in the area.
A post race party/BBQ buffet will ensure that racers get their calories for the day in both solid and liquid form. Go back for seconds and thirds if you like. The food is local as are the beverages.
